President Rajapaksa Receives Bolivia’s Highest National Award

LA PAZ, BOLIVIA: President Mahinda Rajapaksa received Bolivia’s highest national award, Parliamentary Order Merit Democratic Rep. Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruza, for contributions to peace and democracy.

The award by the Bolivian Government was presented to President Rajapaksa by Vice President of Bolivia and President of the Legislative Assembly Mr. Alvaro Garcia Linera at the Legislative Assembly in the city of La Paz, June 16.

This award is the highest honor presented by the Plurinational State of Bolivia and recognizes contributions to peace and democracy.

President Rajapaksa has been selected for this award for defeating terrorism and restoring peace and development in Sri Lanka. The award also recognizes President Rajapaksa’s commitment to human rights and his initiative to improve and expand relations with countries in South America including Bolivia.

The award was made during President Rajapaksa’s visit to Bolivia to attend the Group of 77 + China Summit held in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, June 14 and 15.
